ABOUT US

The Meyerhofer Academy of Dancing was established in 1985 in the Preston area of Cambridge and has been training young dancers ever since. In 2002, The Studio relocated to the current, larger location on Bishop Street, near Hespeler road.

The Studio is run by Owner and Dance Mistress, Lisa Meyerhofer, who received her early training in Kitchener/Waterloo and Cambridge. In her teens she trained with The Royal Winnipeg Ballet and danced with the Alberta Ballet where she performed such parts as Nutcracker's Chinese, Snowflake and Russian and Coppelia's Head Mazurka Girl and Irish Doll.

The Meyerhofer Academy of Dancing has two studios with approved sprung floors.

Faculty

Lisa Meyerhofer ARAD RADTC Principal/Artistic & Ballet Director:

           Lisa was trained in the Waterloo region until the age of 17 when she attended The Royal Winnipeg’s prestigious “Professional Program”.  Lisa then danced with The Alberta Ballet performing such roles as Grandma, Head Snowflake, Chinese, Spanish, Waltz in the Nutcracker and Head Mazurka, Irish Doll in Coppelia.  Lisa has received choreography awards every year her studio has competed and has choreographed for both Estee Lauder and Walt Disney World.

          Lisa took over her home dance school in 1987 and the Meyerhofer Academy of Dancing was born.  Her first teaching experience came at the age of 14 when she was placed in charge of the dance program for the Cambridge YMCA under Mr Cooper.

          Since opening The Meyerhofer Academy of dance her students have gone on to receive scholarships in The National Ballet of Canada, Royal Winnipeg, George Brown, Ryerson, U of W, Banff School of Arts and Joffrey Ballet School .  Meyerhofer graduates have or are dancing in The Phantom of the Opera Toronto & touring, Joffrey, La La La Human Steps, Cirque De Solei, Celine Dion Vegas Show, My Fair Lady, 42nd Street, Bossov Ballet Theater and various cruse ships.

          Lisa’s students have also excelled in the Royal Academy of Dancing exams making her not only a well respected teacher but a sought after adjudicator.

Lisa Collins:

          Lisa was recently honored with the award of “Woman of the Year”, Arts and Culture 2006 for her contributions to the area of Kitchener-Waterloo.  Lisa is a performer, choreographer, dance teacher, adjudicator and internationally recognized casting agent.  Lisa is a versatile dancer/teacher and has been trained in all dance forms.

          During her competitive days she won numerous awards and scholarships.  Lisa has had a successful performance career of her own as a dancer for the last decade.  Her credits include many cruse ship contracts as dance captain/dancer/flyer, company work (Jazz and Modern), theater, the NBA and CFL, various TV and film credits and Industrial/Corporate jobs across North America .

          Lisa is now the owner of LMC productions, a company housing many different aspects of the entertainment industry as well as GET EXPOSED, her summer intensive workshop program.  She has adjudicated dance contests across Canada , and teaches workshops and master classes all over South Western Ontario.  Lisa enjoys sharing her knowledge with dancers of all ages.

          Lisa is performing with Siona Jackson’s  Je Danse Jazz Company in October and in RCMPI’s production of Kiss Me Kate this November.  She is very excited to be a faculty member of Meyerhofer Academy of Dancing!

Rachel Wislon (Assoc Choreographer/Guest Teacher):

  • - Graduate of Brock University .
  • - Graduate of Grifith University with a Masters of     Teaching.
  • - Over 20 years dance experience, 10 years teaching experience and 5 years competitive dance experience.
  • - A former Meyerhofer student who has studied Cecchetti, BDTA, CDTA & RAD.

Sam Walker (Lyrical-Jazz Instructor):

          Sam has been dancing since the age of 7, competing for 14 years specializing in Acro.  In her last year competing she won both Sr Acro and Sr Open solo.  Sam has competed across Canada and the United States .  She continues to dance and choreograph for the Laurier University dance team.

Corinna Nickless (Ballet-Jazz Instructor):

  • - 31 years dance experience.
  • - Qualified to teach both the RAD and CDTA syllabus.
  • - Aerobics, step and weight training instructor.
  • - Dances with Les Grands Ballet Canadiens.

 Monica Lewis (Ballet Instructor Johnson Centre):

  • - 19 years dance experience.
  • - RAD trained with 8 years teaching experience.
  • - Performed with Les Grands Ballet Canadiens.

Scott Kufske (Assoc Choreographer/Guest Teacher):

  • - Professional performer.
Acclaimed choreographer.
